No need for panic among Armenians!

As reported previously, chairman of the board of the Heritage opposition party and deputy of Armenian National Assembly Anait Bakhshyan announced that "Armenian refugees must return to Baku to sell their flats".

In turn, spokesman for Heritage Ovsep Khurshudyan noted that when the refugees from Baku, Ganja and Sumgayit are implied, it does not mean that the interests of the Armenian population of Shaomyan region or the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, who were obliged to flee their homes, can be violated.

"Moreover, why a peacekeeping contingent will be deployed to ensure security of Azerbaijani refugees in the Armenian territory, while no similar steps will be taken to ensure physical security of the Armenian refugees", asks Khurshudyan.

The Day.Az publishing house will now clarify the situation for Anait Bakhshyan and answer the question, concerning Ovsep Khurshudyan.

Armenian refugees left Azerbaijan in the result of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, incited by Karabakh and Krunk organization and after the whole Azerbaijani population was expelled from Armenia.

Chronology is important in this issue. The format day of the start of the conflict is considered February 19 of 1988 when the NKAO oblast council adopted an anti-constitutional decision to separate from Azerbaijani SSR (the illegality of such a decision was confirmed by the presidium of the USSR Supreme Council in July of 1988), yet the first refugees appeared long before the start of the conflict in Autumn of 1987. These were Azerbaijani refugees from several regions of the Armenian SSR. The chain reaction of violence, launched in Armenia, caused response acts of violence in Azerbaijan - the famous events in Sumgayit, which resulted in appearance of first Armenian refugees, occurred several months after the first wave of Azerbaijani refugees. They involved mostly the Azerbaijani refugees from Armenia. The further waves of deportation of Azerbaijanis from Armenia caused similar events in Azerbaijan. In the result, two countries "exchanged" refugees, but at the same time it was Armenia that first expelled its citizens, while the victims burst their outrage on Armenians of Baku, Sumgayit and Ganja. In this connection, the ethnic cleansing, deportations and refugees are inventions of the Armenian side, while Azerbaijan was always the second that is a responding side. The same is applied to lethal cases - first victims were again Azerbaijanis, while events in Sumgayit, which, by the way, involved two ethnic Armenians Edward Grigoryan and Arcadi Aganov, occurred later.

As for the claims of Anait Bashkhyan for the right of Armenian refugees to return to Baku and to sell their flats, Day.Az is ready to discuss this topic in the context of the return of 212.000 Azerbaijani refugees to Armenia and restitution of property, left there, including immovable property, lands, pastures and repayment of compensation for the lost and stolen property. To Bakhshyan information, the territory of agricultural fams, where Azerbaijanis of Armenia resided, exceeded the whole territory of the former NKAO. Now who suppressed Armenians, if they were even presented a territorial autonomy. In case Armenia rejects to return Azerbaijani refugees, who will allow Armenian refugees to return to Baku and start selling their flats? Perhaps, we must also let them sell our oil and then transfer this money to the fund of any "krunk" or for the purchase of arms by Dashnaks, like it once occurred in 1918?

While answering Khurshudyan's question, it is primarily necessary to clarify for him that former Shaomyan region of Azerbaijan has never been part of NKAO, it is not an administrative part of the Nagorno Karabakh province of Azerbaijan and it would hardly be annexed to it in the future. The status of the former Shaomyan region towards Azerbaijan is similar to the status of any region of Armenia towards Armenia, while the status of Armenian refugees from this former region is similar to the status of Azerbaijani refugees from Gafan or Amasiya.

Moreover, Khushudyan's concern regarding "return of Azerbaijani refugees to Armenian lands" is groundless - Azerbaijani refugees return not to Armenia (at least, this issue is not raised in the negotiation process in the OSCE MG frames) but to the temporarily occupied Nagorno Karabakh, as the internationally-recognized Azerbaijani lands. Thus, they should be called not refugees but internally displaced persons of Azerbaijani nationality. So, no need for panic.

In case of the real return of Azerbaijani refugees to Armenian lands around Yerevan and provision of their security by international peacekeepers, Day.Az will be first to initiate ensuring the security of Armenian refugees, returning to Azerbaijan.

Welcome!

Situation of forests in the occupied regions of Azerbaijan

The occupation of territories of Azerbaijan by the Armenian separatist military forces has been still causing not only huge humanitarian problems and a disastrous natural catastrophe in the region. For example, more than 147609 hectares of the most valuable, rich forest resources of Zangilan, Kalbajar, Lachin, Khojali, Khojavand and Shusha of the Republic of Azerbaijan are still under Armenian occupation and have been destroying by Armenian barbars.

Every year by coming the autumn and winter months the Armenian occupants begin in most aggressive manner to destroy the rare flora and fauna in occupied territories of Azerbaijan that proves again their intention not to live and let azeris to live there. Actually, a lot of tree and bush examples growing in the mentioned territories were registered as rare ones into the Red Book of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Among them bear hazel and other hazel take an important place.
Actually the wood of this tree is eing cut down and carried to Armenia as a valuable furniture material. ccording to the statistics of various international organizations, the total area of state forests of only Gubadli, Zangilan and Jabrayil (under occupation) regions lying in protection of Zangilan forestry is 30063 hectares. Including 19018 hectares of the area covered with forest, 30 hectare of cultural forest plantation, 238 hectares of cultural not amalgamated parasol forest sown area, total forest area 22743 hectares, 41 hectare of hayfield, 2985 hectares of pasture, 4278 hectares of other lands were in Zangilan.
State forest territory in Gubadly region is 13160 hectares. 7288 hectares of the area covered with forest, 11 hectare of cultural forest sown area, 91 hectares of not amalgamated parasol forest sown area, 1400 hectare of sparse wood territory, 43 hectare of gorge trench, total forest land 8833 hectares, hayfield – 26 hectare, pasture – 1630 hectares and 2660 hectares of other lands were in Gubadly.
State forest territory – 4039 hectares, area covered with forest – 2700 hectares, a forestation – 1 hectare, not amalgamated parasol forest sown area – 89 hectares, sparse wood area – 942 hectares, gorge-trench – 42 hectares, total forest land – 3774 hectares and 265 hectares of pasture area were in Jabrayil region.

Before the occupation the Kalbajar region was distinguished with its rare forests, water resources beside other natural resources. The territory of Kalbajar forestry was 32774 hectares according to forest construction works carried out in 1998. Besides these, there were 8676 hectares of collecting and state farm forests. Forests situated in Kalbajar region was of soil protection importance including forest reserves situated around rivers with valuable fish basin - 13471 hectares, significant forests for enviroment protection – 15531 hectares, green zones around cities and other settlements – 274 hectares, forest park zone – 80 hectares.

In Lachin region there were 33285 hectares of forest fund and 26647 hectares, i.e. 80% of which is covered with forest. There was 176 hectares of cultural forest sowings in forestry. 1466 hectares of sparse wood, 1387 hectares ravine-trench areas form 2853 hectares of the forest territory. In the area covered with forests there were 423 hectares of hayfield, 1329 hectares of pasture, 18 hectares of road and under channel, 39 hectares of underwater, 8 hectares of sandy place, 606 hectares of stony-shingle areas in the forestry territory and 1189 hectares of other lands.
Taking into account all these facts of environment catastrophe in the South Caucasus caused by Armenian military machine last decades,
the Coordination Council of Azerbaijani Organizations of Benelux (CCAOB) calls upon UN, European Community, all the international organisations, international community to make Armenia and its separatist regime in “NKR” stop their illegal activities of destruction of rare flora and fauna of Azerbaijan. We also reiterate an appeal to the international community to strengthen its political pressure on Armenia, urging it for immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all its military troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.

Day.Az has received a letter from a reader, which says that the biggest gas company Gazprom helps restore the gas supply to Nagorno Karabakh de-facto.

According to it, the link on the map is posted on the official website of ArmRosgazprom in the section GAS-TRANSPORTATION MAP of Armenia.

By following this link we can see a gas transportation map of Armenia, which fixes that ArmRosgazprom is engaged in ensuring gas supplies of Nagorno Karabakh.

It should be noted that the Armenian-Russian closed stock company ArmRosgazprom was created by the Energy Ministry of Armenia, Gazprom, ITERA International Energy L.L.C (ITERA) on the basis of an agreement of August 30 of 1997. The society was founded for the term of 50 years. The term of the activity can be prolonged by the mutual consent of the shareholders.

Gazprom has the biggest share in the founding capital of ArmRosgazprom. It owns 67.94% of the founding capital, Armenian government holds 26.23% and ITERA 5.83%.

In other words it can be stated that company ArmRosgazprom is in fact owned by Gazprom and Gazprom, violating all international norms, promotes the development of the gas sector of Nagorno Karabakh, considering that Nagorno Karabakh belongs to Armenia.

Gazprom is notably the biggest gas company in the world. The government of Russia owns the control shares in Gazprom - 50.002%.

Another notable fact is that on July 3 of this year Russia and Azerbaijan agreed to initiate talks on provisions of the purchase of Azerbaijani gas by Russia.

"Azerbaijan will become another country to sell gas to Gazprom, while earlier it was Azerbaijan which bought gas from us", said Gazprom President Alexei Miller, adding that Gazprom is ready to cooperate with Azerbaijan.

How can we sell Azerbaijani gas to Russia, when the government of Russia provides de-facto assistance to the restoration of the gas supplies in Nagorno Karabakh? Who can guarantee that Azerbaijani gas will not go to Nagorno Karabakh via Armenia? How can we trust to this gas structure, which fully ignores the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan? Or, perhaps, Gazprom, in fact owning ArmRusgazprom, forgot that Nagorno Karabakh belongs to Azerbaijan?

In this sense, we call on the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan, the Cabinet of Ministers, Azerigaz and certainly the Azerbaijani embassy to Russia, which demonstrates quick reaction to such issues, to interfere with this problem and give an adequate response to Gazprom for this issue is seriously bound to the strategic interests of our country.

The Times: “Muslim Magomaev was an event, from the moment he took to the stage”

The Times published an article about our compatriot Muslim Magomaev, Azerbaijan’s embassy in the Great Britain told APA.

The Times called Muslim Magomaev as the “Soviet Sinatra”. “Muslim Magomaev was a hugely popular Azerbaijani singer whose talents embraced traditional song, operatic arias and jazz standards and who rejoiced in being known as the “Soviet Sinatra”. Magomaev was born in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, into a family of talented Azeri performers. From an early age Magomaev displayed clear musical talent and studied music first at the school attached to the Baku Conservatoire, and later at the conservatoire itself, specializing in piano and composition. Those who remember his earliest performances in Moscow say that he was more than a singer; he was an event, from the moment he took to the stage. His winning of official approval so early in his career meant that he was able to travel and work abroad — at La Scala, Milan. After Milan he went to Paris to work at the Olympia Theatre”.
Then the authors are speaking about his creative work and his repertoire. “From 1975 to 1989 Magomaev was artistic director of the Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra, and continued to give public performances. He was as proud of his native Azerbaijan. His records sold more than four million copies, and he maintained his broad repertoire, including opera, love songs, jazz, and traditional Russian and popular songs. He also composed music for the theatre and film”.
