Armenian serviceman admits Qarabaq's being Azerbaijani territory

Paruyr Stepanyan:"I refuse from Armenian citizenship"

Armenian serviceman Paruyr Stepanyan, who has passed to Azerbaijan voluntarily, refuses from Armenian citizenship. In his interview with an ANS correspondent, Stepanyan told  tyranny and lawlessness in Armenian Army was one of the reasons that made him pass to Azerbaijan.

Parayur Stepanyan, 19, born in Irevan, Armenia says there are several reasons for his passing to Azerbaijan ranging from lawlessness to violation of human rights in Armenia. Stepanyan said he could not have got higher education because of his poor social condition. “It is very hard to enter a university in Armenia without giving bribe,” he said.

Stepanyan also said he had learned the history of Qarabaq and certain international conventions on territorial integrity of states. “I learned why the war was started and I studied international laws and regulations on state borders. 1976 Helsinki document on borders, as well as Armenian monument on 150th anniversary of Armenians’ move to Qarabaq proves territorial integrity of Azerbaijan once more. If Armenians lived in Qarabaq before Azerbaijanis, why did they need such a monument there? There is only one reasonable answer to this question that Qarabaq is a historical region of Azerbaijan,” Armenian serviceman stated.

Stepanyan also complained of anti-democratic government and violation of human rights in Armenia.

“I don want to reside in a country where a citizen can not enjoy his right to free election. When I was serving in the Armenian Army, I could not vote in the 2008 February presidential elections. I found my ballot cast in favor of Serzh Sargsyan when I was on duty. Armenian is governed through dictatorship. Thus, I addressed to Azerbaijani government that I don’t want to be an Armenian citizen any more. I refuse from Armenian citizenship. I can not understand why Armenia does not go into talks and delays Qarabaq issue every time,” said Stepanyan.

Paruyr also complained of grave situation in Armenian Army speaking about tortures and violations committed by officers against soldiers.

“Officers often beat soldiers, even till death. I was also repeatedly beaten. On one of these days, I risked my life and passed to Azerbaijan and capitulated.“

Stepanyan stated he does not want to return to Armenia, which suffers poor level of social life. According to him, many Armenian families live on financials means sent to them by relatives abroad. Paruyr also asked Azerbaijani government for asylum.

“I ask Azerbaijani government to grant me with a refugee status either in Azerbaijan, or in a EU country. Any country, except Russia. Russia has very close ties with Armenia, that is why I don’t want to go to Russia,” Stepanyan concluded.

Daily News

There occurred a clash between the Azerbaijani and Armenian soldiers on the night of Sunday.
Azerbaijani army soldier Orkhan Shamilov died in the result of fire at Azerbaijani positions by Armenians, locating in the occupied lands of Azerbaijan, said spokesman for Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan Eldar Sabiroghlu.
He noted that Shamilov, being on the army duty, tried to silence the enemy.
By the information, in several minutes of fire exchange, Shamilov, continuing the fire, raised on attack. In the result, he managed to terminate two soldiers. Shamilov died.
The enemy managed to take the killed soldiers from the fire exchange zone, while Shamilov's body was left near positions of the Armenian armed forces and the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan tries to get him out of there.
At the same time, Sabiroghlu refuted information of Armenian mass medias that Azerbaijani army divisions tried to cross the contact line and noted that the armed incident occurred for the reason of the violation of ceasefire regime by the Armenian side.
Shamilov was notably born in 1988 and was recruited by the military enlistment office of Terter in April of 2008.

Day.Az has received a letter from a reader, which says that the biggest gas company Gazprom helps restore the gas supply to Nagorno Karabakh de-facto.

According to it, the link on the map is posted on the official website of ArmRosgazprom in the section GAS-TRANSPORTATION MAP of Armenia.

By following this link we can see a gas transportation map of Armenia, which fixes that ArmRosgazprom is engaged in ensuring gas supplies of Nagorno Karabakh.

It should be noted that the Armenian-Russian closed stock company ArmRosgazprom was created by the Energy Ministry of Armenia, Gazprom, ITERA International Energy L.L.C (ITERA) on the basis of an agreement of August 30 of 1997. The society was founded for the term of 50 years. The term of the activity can be prolonged by the mutual consent of the shareholders.

Gazprom has the biggest share in the founding capital of ArmRosgazprom. It owns 67.94% of the founding capital, Armenian government holds 26.23% and ITERA 5.83%.

In other words it can be stated that company ArmRosgazprom is in fact owned by Gazprom and Gazprom, violating all international norms, promotes the development of the gas sector of Nagorno Karabakh, considering that Nagorno Karabakh belongs to Armenia.

Gazprom is notably the biggest gas company in the world. The government of Russia owns the control shares in Gazprom - 50.002%.

Another notable fact is that on July 3 of this year Russia and Azerbaijan agreed to initiate talks on provisions of the purchase of Azerbaijani gas by Russia.

"Azerbaijan will become another country to sell gas to Gazprom, while earlier it was Azerbaijan which bought gas from us", said Gazprom President Alexei Miller, adding that Gazprom is ready to cooperate with Azerbaijan.

How can we sell Azerbaijani gas to Russia, when the government of Russia provides de-facto assistance to the restoration of the gas supplies in Nagorno Karabakh? Who can guarantee that Azerbaijani gas will not go to Nagorno Karabakh via Armenia? How can we trust to this gas structure, which fully ignores the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan? Or, perhaps, Gazprom, in fact owning ArmRusgazprom, forgot that Nagorno Karabakh belongs to Azerbaijan?

In this sense, we call on the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan, the Cabinet of Ministers, Azerigaz and certainly the Azerbaijani embassy to Russia, which demonstrates quick reaction to such issues, to interfere with this problem and give an adequate response to Gazprom for this issue is seriously bound to the strategic interests of our country.

The Times: “Muslim Magomaev was an event, from the moment he took to the stage”

The Times published an article about our compatriot Muslim Magomaev, Azerbaijan’s embassy in the Great Britain told APA.

The Times called Muslim Magomaev as the “Soviet Sinatra”. “Muslim Magomaev was a hugely popular Azerbaijani singer whose talents embraced traditional song, operatic arias and jazz standards and who rejoiced in being known as the “Soviet Sinatra”. Magomaev was born in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, into a family of talented Azeri performers. From an early age Magomaev displayed clear musical talent and studied music first at the school attached to the Baku Conservatoire, and later at the conservatoire itself, specializing in piano and composition. Those who remember his earliest performances in Moscow say that he was more than a singer; he was an event, from the moment he took to the stage. His winning of official approval so early in his career meant that he was able to travel and work abroad — at La Scala, Milan. After Milan he went to Paris to work at the Olympia Theatre”.
Then the authors are speaking about his creative work and his repertoire. “From 1975 to 1989 Magomaev was artistic director of the Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra, and continued to give public performances. He was as proud of his native Azerbaijan. His records sold more than four million copies, and he maintained his broad repertoire, including opera, love songs, jazz, and traditional Russian and popular songs. He also composed music for the theatre and film”.
