Ten activists of movement for rights of South Azerbaijanis undergo trial in Iran |

The Revolutionary Court of Tehran passed a verdict on activists of movement for rights of South Azerbaijanis, said Sadikh Isabeyli, chairman of the center of research and information of the South Azerbaijan Independence Party.
Thus, activists Said Matinpur and Saleh Kamrani are sentenced to 8 and 1 years of imprisonment respectively.
"Teachers of Tehran University Abdullah Abbasi Javan and Mehemmedli Heydari, activists Alirza Matinput, Jalil Ganlu, Mirkasim Seiddinzade, Yaqub Salikiniya, Behruz Safari and Leyla Heydari are sentenced provisionally for 5 years", said Isabeyli. He noted that they are charged with organization of actions, aimed at combat against Iranian authorities and espionage. |

Vegetables, imported from Turkey, dangerous for health |

Rosselkhoznadzor banned import of Turkish vegetables to Russia due to Turkey's systematic violation of international and Russian requirements while supplying fruits and vegetables. Experts announce that nitrate and pesticide level in Turkish vegetables may exceed the accepted norm by ten times. Constant use of production, containing pesticides or nitrites, may cause development of various diseases, including cancers.
It should be noted that Turkish vegetables (tomato, lemon, quince, apples and potatoes) are widely imported to Azerbaijan and sold in markets and in specialized points of vegetable and fruits sale. Despite the ban, imposed on Turkish products in Russia, due instances in Azerbaijan are silent so far. |

Armenians break ceasefire |

Armenian armed forces locating in the occupied lands of Azerbaijan violated ceasefire on June 10 and 11. According to the press service for the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan, the Armenian armed forces fired at the positions of the Azerbaijanarmy locating just opposite their posts on a nameless height of Fizuli, near Qyzyl Oba, Hasanqaya and Chileburt villages of Terter, Kuropatkino village and a nameless height in Khojavend, from Yusifjanly village of Aghdam. The enemy used machine and submachine guns. Armenians were stopped by response fire. No casualties were reported. |

Earthquake with 4.1 magnitude hits southern region of Azerbaijan |

Earthquake with 4.1 magnitude hit the southern region of Azerbaijan at 19.54 by Baku time on Tuesday, the Seismological Service Center of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences told APA. The quake’s epicenter was in 36 km from Masalli Region and shocks of earthquake were felt in Masalli, Lankaran, Neftchala and Jalilabad regions. No causalities reported. |

Award for journalists under threat |

Amnesty International UK has short listed a Yemeni and an Azerbaijani journalist for its 2008 “Special Award For Human Rights Journalism Under Threat”, part of the organization’s annual media awards, reported London-based Amnesty International organization. The both journalists have been prosecuted and pressured for their articles and criticism of authorities.
