February 24, 2008- A monument to Khojali Genocide victims was unveiled in the city of The Hague, The Netherlands.Crowds of 200 people gathered to participate in the opening. Several speeches ( in both Dutch and Azerbaijani languages) were made by prominent figures included by the Azerbaijani ambassador to the Netherlands Fuad Iskenderov. While the Azerbaijani flag was flapping in the wind, people and heads of organisations laid flowers at the monument. The text in English on the monument reads: In memory of all victims of Khojali (Azerbaijan), February 1992. A special press briefing right after the opening ceremony took place to distribute free books '' Armenian Claims and Historical Facts'' ( for those interested ) and to give additional interviews to several TV journalists. According to the press service for the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan, the Armenian armed forces fired at positions of Azerbaijani army locating just opposite their posts near Chayli, Seysulan, Gyzyl Oba, Goyarkh villages of Terter, Kuropatkino village and a nameless height in Khojavend
Azerbaijani army soldier Orkhan Shamilov died in the result of fire at Azerbaijani positions by Armenians, locating in the occupied lands of Azerbaijan, said spokesman for Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan Eldar Sabiroghlu.
