Today Azerbaijan marks the 16th anniversary of Hojaly genocide. On February 26 at night Hojaly, the second biggest settlement in Nagorno Karabakh populated by Azerbaijanis, was occupied by Armenian separatists through participation of Russian militaries and Russian army’s motor-rifle battalion.
This morning President Ilham Aliyev and other officials, members of Government, parliament Deputies and representatives of publicity have visited the Hojaly genocide victims’ memorial in Baku’s Hatai region. The memorial has been reconstructed and names of all victims have been engraved on the pedestal.

Every year on February 25-26 Azerbaijani citizens mark anniversary of Hojaly genocide. On this day Armenian occupants through assistance of Russian military seized the town and savagely killed hundreds of people with women, children and old people among them. Annihilation of civilians lasted several days, occupants executed and murdered prisoners, raped women and children, cut off heads and hung POWs.
Over 600 unarmed people with 106 women and 83 children among them were killed. Thousands of people have become disabled with 76 of them under-aged and 1,275 people were taken hostage. Fate of many people is still unknown.
Hojaly genocide’s horrors were recorded on photo and video cameras by local and foreign journalists.
Names of Armenian separatists and Russian officers that committed crime against mankind have been identified. But they are still free and live in Russia, Armenia and Karabakh.
Azerbaijani Milli Mejlis has repeatedly adopted special statements urging international community, governments and parliaments of the world to recognize and condemn Hojaly genocide, which has been organized by Armenian officials.
