On June 1st Amsterdam Shorts presented 4 movies : Three for the taking (Poland), The House (Azerbaijan), Cold Joint (Slovakia) and The White wolf (France) All movies were eligible for a jury prise. Asif Rustamov’s ‘’ The house’’ is a story of a young man named Anar who was offered money to sell his house. The young man refused to sell his house yet the property developers did not give up and found a way to deal with his ‘’stubborn’’ attitude in order to get their way. This movie shows the reality of corruption as experienced by many ordinary people in Azerbaijan. At the cemetry Anar accidently bumps into a beautful young woman that later becomes his lover. In this difficult economic situation Anar's old friend arranges for him a little job. Nothing could go wrong he thought and the world seemed a brighter place but only for a short while. The opportunity to make money let his old friend betray him. ''The sweet loving girl'' whom Anar loved was just a part of their dirty trick. Fear and misery made him finally sell his house. The first 1-2 minutes the film experienced some technical problems which gaves us the feeling that the audience lost their total interest in the movie. As the movie started rolling again the audience wachted the movie with total attention. Once the movie was over, the viewers have expressed their symphaty for the main actor. ''The House'' is a good quality short film with English subtitles. Asif Rustamov's success is surely assured. Bartek Konodka’s ‘’ Three for the taking’’ is a very touching movie where a teenage girl trying to take care of her siblings, experiences life as a struggle that she can not survive without professional guidance. All 4 movies were worth watching, unfortunately our country fellows did not attend the Amsterdam Shorts although the announcement has been on our website a week in advance...
